I have noticed my 4.6 with 146,000 miles is burning some oil between oil changes. So I've been reading about PCV could be allowing some oil to go by it. I went and got a replacement t today from Advance Auto and it was a bright blue plastic piece. I took my old one off with a 13/16 open end wrench and it must be original. The end that goes into the valve cover was of course filthy with oil but didn't look to be in bad shape otherwise. The valve still moved and rattled. But my question is all the replacement parts I have seen are the same bright blue like the one I installed -even the Motorcraft one shown on Rock Auto, but my original was a grey color. The new part fit fine and side by side they look identical except the color.

Not sure about the color, but I believe there is a hose going from the drivers valve cover directly to the throttle body, with no PCV valve.

Agree on that. But this is coming out of the passenger side valve cover and the hose that connects to my blue PCV is the one that connects to throttle body and is infamous for having the cracked rubber elbow.

I've only seen the blue PCV. These engines are known for letting oil foul the throttle body. Ford has a TSB on it for engines with less than 10k.

However, I don't know that it's enough to lower the oil level. How many miles between oil changes and how low on oil?

I go 3-5,000 miles between Motorcraft 5W-20 oil change. I put in about half a quart the other day when I saw the level was between the hashmarks on dipstick. I know the manual says it's safe within the hashmarks but I wanted it to be to the full mark.

Six quarts only gets our 4.6L to the middle between low and high.

Only one bank actually has a PCV valve, the other bank is just a pass through. The are on the center of each valve cover. Hose runs from bank 2 valve cover to intake pipe. Hose from bank 1 runs to intake plenum. Actually they are plastic tubes not hoses.
