Hi, all.
I recently purchased a 2003 Explorer XLT. The power windows do not work from driver or any door, radio does not come on, but clock will display time and says no cd or tape if eject is pressed, sunroof will not open and have door ajar light lit with all doors shut. I have investigated as far as I can with my meter and Haynes manual and all indications seem to be it is the Generic Electronic Module. First question where is it located and second question is am I on the right track? Please any help would be appreciated. I am a diesel generator technician by trade and have a good understanding of 12 dc systems. I also checked the Delay accesoy relay and it tested good. It shows in wiring diagram in haynes manual that the GEM is the component which gives 12dc signal to the delayed accesory relay. PLEASE HELP!

Hi, and welcome aboard. There are a lot of posts on here recently about miscellaneous electrical gremlins that have been tracked to a broken ground wire in the rubber conduit between the drivers door and the door frame. It's the large solid black wire in there. You might have to just cut it in the door and splice in a wire to a good ground to check it out. Good luck. Let us know what you find out.

Still going

I have checked door ground and have verified 1.5ohms to ground. Have also fixed interior light problem. Still no radoi or windows. Upon further study of haynes nmanual, 2003 has no GEM but power to delay accessory realy comes from instament cluster blue wire with red trace. I do nt believe this to be true be cause when 12vdc is applied to blue wire with red tracer, fog lamps come on. I need to know which wire is the 12vdc control wire to the delay accessory relay. PLease Help!
:(

Yeah, Ford got rid of the GEM during the 2002 Explorer production run. Late build '02s and on do not have a GEM.

Check the 30a circuit breaker in location 62 of your Battery Junction Box. Power to the Delayed Acc Relay is supplied through that circuit (at least in the late build '02s). I believe the power wire between the circuit breaker and the relay is white/light blue. Good luck. Keep us posted.

and

I will probably get flamed for this, but I'd pitch that chiltons' manual. I trust them about as much as I do mapquest.

Get on eBay and buy a used factory DVD for your vehicle. A TON more data, and detailled (picture of the connector) flowcharts.

Similar Problems

I have an 03 Explorer and I also am having the problem with the dome lights not shuting off when I exit the car. You stated that you fix this problem, can you share how? Thanks

I also have a 2003 explorer in which the wipers wont shut off, even with the key removed. Any ideas?
