A question for the guru's please :)....my '03 sport trac's cruise control will now only come on if I repeatedly over and over and over press the right side switch ( set/cruise/coast switch). The dash light that lets me know that cruise is on flashes a millisecond quick on when I try to turn it on, but then goes off once I take my thumb off the button. The illumination light of the set switch no longer works either but it does work on the on/off switch. We went on vacation a few months back and I tried the whole trip to get that sucker to engage, and as luck would have it, yes it did start to work,....about 5 miles before we got to where we were going!! LOL . I tried it on the way back home a few days later and had no luck getting it to come on. Talk about some tired legs on that trip,..whew!
Would I be wrong in trying to replace both cruise control switches to see if this is the problem, or could it be anything else that Im not aware of ?
Also, where is the least expensive place to purchase them? I see that amazon has them for about $83.00. Any help out there for better prices somewhere ? The part number for the switches are : SW5928
Thanks for taking time to reply. John

Cruise Control Problem on '03 Sport Trac

The switch on the master cylinder is usually the culprit. Have the dealer run an OASIS to see if your truck needs the recall prior to purchasing the switch yourself. As stated above, make sure you get the black switch.
Recall lists 2001-02 ST's. Confirm you have the black switch on the MC.
Ford has been known to use left over parts from previous model years.

Could be the brake switch at the master cylinder. That was the issue in my 2010 F350. Cruise was intermittent for a while and then would never work. New switch solved the problem.

Thanks for the link!! Well, it looks like it might well indeed be the switch out at the master cyl. I think I'll order it and give it a tryto see if that gets me "cruising" again, pun intended,:D lol
Thank you so much swshawaii. I'll report back when I get the switch installed.

Same problem on my '03. I just removed the switch, tapped it to remove any "gunk" from the threaded side and reinstalled. A 2 minuet fix and works fine now.

I have not tried the 3 flash test nor knew about it but its worth a shot anyway. I see this morning that my brake switch is already being shipped to me from Amazon :)
As always, thank you Sir !!

Hi folks....UPDATE....
I replaced the brake switch at the master cylinder and BAM, the cruise control now works!
The light inside the switch no longer lights/illuminates up and had not for some time, so I reckon there is no fix for that issue except a new switch on the right side of the steering wheel, is that correct? The on/off switch on the left side of the steering wheel still illuminates fine though.
Thanks so much for all of your help here and I wish all of you a
very MERRY CHRISTMAS!!
John
