Hey Guys,

Does anyone know off hand if all 03 V6 Explorer w/ AWD had an LSD or open diff? Or it was dependent on the factory producing them?

It all depends on if it has tow package or not. Go look at your door sticker and tell us what it says under axle.

it has the factory tow package with the little receiver... i thought they all had it.

I'll be home in an hour i'll check the door tag then. Thanks a lot!

the rear axle code is 45 which corresponds to a 3.55 Open rear diff.

Best oil recommendation to quiet the rear of my open differential? I'm guessing 75-140... any particular brand?

I dont know what fluid is the best. I do know I would be putting a ls unit in. but thats just me.

Schaeffers oil has moly in it that cools better and protects the gears better than any other additive. Product # 293 semi Syn or #167 pure Syn. Go to there web site you can search for retail outlet or a rep that lives near by. You will be extremely happy with there gear oil!

Why switch to LSD? I rarely take the explo off roading and during the last 2 bad storms we had in CT i was out driving and NEVER lost traction... i was very impressed with how the car handled in the snow, with all season tires no less.

Thanks for the recommendation Joscibo, im checking this stuff out now
