2003 xlt air conditioning issue

i just recently bought a ford explorer and i cant get the air to come out of anything other then the vents but its almost like it stuck between setting but i can get hot air or cold air it just wont switch fromt vent to defrost or anything is there anything pointers to a thread with a similar issue it has manuel controls

It could be a "vacuum line" problem to your dash vents/control knob(behind dash) or it could also be a broken actuator that moves the vent door. If you take the glove box out you will notice a vacuum tank. Check the connections on it and check for kinked lines. Check out these threads for other considerations:

ok i was looking threw it all and i figured out that the vent panel door conntecting plastic for the accuator had been broken and previously zip tied so i need to fix that as well as the fresh air and recirculation door had fallen so i need to get that fixed but im going to try and just find a used dash with the air conditioning box as a whole
