Hello,
I am braqnd new to this forum. I have a good friend that has a 2004 4.o v6 that has a right side head gasket leaking. He has replaced the gasket and re-assembled the engine and no it will not start. I have done some research on the web about this awful timing chain configuration. Anyway he told me there was no key or dowl pin on the camshaft sprocket. I find this extremely doubtful. So is this true? If so how do you lock in the sprocket to the cam? I feel the RH cam is out of time as there is no compression on the middle cylinder. He has not checked the other 2 as there is no reason. My other question is: Is this an inbterference engine, if so, he probably bent some valves on the RH side. I think he tried to do this job himself and got a bit over his head. He talked to me and I was shocked at the cam sprocket was at the rear on the RH side. Then I went over and saw it in person. What were the Ford engineers thinking? or is this a Mazda design? Totally crazy, 3 chains, tensioners, guides etc.!!!! Anyway, What is the opinion? Can this be timed and running again without removing the engine, or does it sound likje a engine R&R? Sorry for the long post, espicially my first one. Thanks in advance, Kim
