I have a question. I am experiencing a shutter and grinding type noise at very low speeds while turning from the rear end. I know there is a TSB about the clutch pack being changed on this type of issue. I wanted to see maybe if the fluid just needed to be changed as it has 175k on it. So I ran it down the road a bit to warm it up a little then let it sit for about 30 minutes and checked for any signs of leaks and seen none. I took the fill plug out and put my pinky in there and sure enough it was right below the plug. It looked a little dark so I took the drain plug out and drained the fluid. It was indeed old but there was no real signs of metal in the fluid. The fill plug magnet was gunked with like a silver grease looking substance so I cleaned it and the drain plug. I let the fluid drain to a slow drip then stuck my finger in the drain hole and scooped out any left in the bottom. I put the plug back in and filled it with half a pint of synth 75 140 then put 4 oz of Motorcraft XL-3 modifier in the other half of the pint and then added it to the bell. I then got another pint ready and it only took half of it then started running out? I was like whoa I thought it should take 3.5 pints. So waited a second for it all to settle then felt it with my pinky and sure enough it was just under the fill plug hole. So I squeezed a little more in there just to make sure and it was running out again I plugged it up. Did I do something wrong? Why did it only take 1-1/2 pints and 4oz of friction modifier? The shutter is still there at very slow turns. If i am going over 10 miles a hour there is no symptoms at all. Only at real slow speeds while turning. No hum on the freeway or anything.
