2004 Explorer XLT AC demister problem

Hi there

I have what seems like a weird problem to myself with the AC system.

I am driving a 2004 Explorer XLT.

My problem is that the AC wont work when using the front demisters in my car. Air still comes out however the AC doesnt work (button doesnt light up) so its hard to clear the screen when it fogs up on cold mornings. The AC does work however when setting it to the front or foot vents (button does light up) just not the front windshield vents.

Has anyone else had this problem before?

That is actually normal operation of the system. The A/C is on but just to dehumidify the air not really to cool it...
