Okay. So I've been reading on here the different problems people were/are having with the airbag on the drivers side. I too am now having the same issue with the air bag light flashing (I believe its code 42) before it stays solid on the dash. I replaced the alternator and serp belt this weekend and tried to mess with the connections under the seat. Do I need to pull the seat out to clean/adjust the connections, or is there something else going on with this. I feel that this is most likely the problem as it wasnt on when we bought the truck with 181,000 miles and it didnt start until i felt I was sitting right on top of the steering wheel and moved the seat back. This is an 04 AWD Flex Fuel V-6 with 188,000 miles. We bought it in April and I love it and I think the wife likes it as well. From what I've seen these run forever as long as they are taken care of. Any ideas are greatly appreciated.

Okay, problem with the air bag light is still consistent. The charging issue with the replacing the alternator is no longer an issue. I also just replaced the front pads and rotors. I plan on getting new tires in a few weeks and would like to try to take care of the issue with air bag before I take it in. Any help is greatly appreciated.

If it is code 42, then it is for Driver side collision sensor. Its specifically for the mount is experiencing an issue.

Driver Side Crash Sensor Mounting Failure

Normal Operation
The driver side crash sensor monitors the severity of a crash event. If the crash event is severe enough, the sensor will signal the restraints control module (RCM) to deploy the driver side air bag.

The RCM monitors the two-wire current loop to the driver side crash sensor for a signal that is out of the expected range. If the RCM detects a signal from the driver side crash sensor, indicating a sensor mounting failure, it will store diagnostic trouble code (DTC) B2441 and flash a lamp fault code (LFC) 42 (or a higher priority code if one exists) on the air bag indicator.

Possible Causes

A driver side crash sensor mounting failure fault can be caused by:
damaged driver side crash sensor.
corrosion or damage at the sensor mounting surface.

I pulled the failure information from http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/showthread.php?t=133850

Thank You for responding. I will confirm the DTC today and let you know if for sure it is a code 42 or not. I believe it is though. IF it is, how do I fix it?

If it is the driver side crash sensor with the safety canopy, there is a sensor located in the b pillar at the bottom. This deploys the safety canopy. There is another sensor located in the front of the vehicle behind the front bumper. This can also throw a code 42. I would check this one first as you have 181,000 miles on your Mounty. The bolt could have rusted and broken, the surface may have stuff on it and causing it, or the sensor has gone bad. Its location is in right in the center.
Remember to disconnect your battery and wait a few minutes before repairing the SRS system. Airbags are not fun or cheap to repair.
