2004 mountaineer Subwoofer/Radio issue's

Hi, I have search the forum and read a couple of posts about the radio, but, I have not seen one about only the rear speakers working. I can use the fader control and still get only rear speakers. I pulled the radio out and checked connectors but found no issue's. recently while going down the road all speakers came on for a few moments (thought loose connector?). any suggestions before I buy an aftermarket radio and install it? (I don't want to buy a radio and find it is a wiring problem and get only rear speakers from it as well). Thanks in advance for any info.
