2004 Ranger Cat replacement?

I have a 2004 Ranger 3.0 that someone has removed the front y pipe with two cats and the rear cat.

Ford wants about $1600 for parts not including O2 sensors.

My understanding is that salvage yards cannot sell Cats.

Any recommendations on how to approach this?

Aftermarket? Custom?

That is an ugly situation and whoever sold you that vehicle in that condition is liable for some very serious legal action. I take it you bought it from a private seller. No dealer would ever sell something like that.

But that withstanding, let's see if we can solve your problem for you. I just went to Rock Auto and they don't show the converter assy's for your application. Not good. That means you're stuck with the dealer unless you have something custom built for your application. And there is no guarantee you will get it passed by the inspectors if you do. That leaves going back to whomever sold you the truck and having them either give you the missing parts or buying them. Quite honestly, they are responsible. It is against the law to knowingly remove the cats on a vehicle...let alone sell one that way. For $1600...I would go that route.
