2004 Tranny Gone??

Hi all,

Ok here's my issue.

Turned the corner to my pals house and revs shot way up. OD light started flashing, message center said check transmission. No reverse, shifts from 1st to 2nd ok, 2nd to 3rd just reving up high, but moves along slowly.
Limped it home. Should I just order a rebuilt tranny, and let my buddy with a mechanic shop put it in, or tranny shop and let them have a look for another option?

It's a 2004 4.6 limited. 235000kms (150000miles)

The flashing O/D light indicates a stored code. Find out what the code number is.

Keep in mind that a lot of scanners are not capable of reading manufacturer specific transmission codes.
