hey all,

when using the cruise control at lower speeds, the engine will cut off when you press the set or coast buttons on the steering wheel. it seems to work fine at higher speeds (45+).

any thoughts on what might be causing this??

Most vehicles have a minimum speed that the cruise will work at. Never tried it that low but it sounds like you found it for the Explorers. Someone else can confirm.

yeah, i know there is a lower limit that you can't use the CC under that certain speed, but i am talking about the engine literally cutting (stalling, dieing, etc) off when you press the buttons.

This is the correct answer to your question...

I understood it the same way Muzzymaniac saw it...

You are saying now that your engine just dies when you hit those buttons. That's a pretty major malfunction, sounds like the fuel supply is cut off when you hit those buttons. Check the to see if there is a recall on that issue - TSB search. Maybe a tech will have a specific answer here for you.

And gtsetgo, :) throw in a couple faces, otherwise people see  You know the drill :D

No recall. It's been discussed before. It's only with the '04s. Search

Sounds like a short. Have you had it looked at?

Just to add to my original thought on this thread. I tested my cruise tonight and the cut off is 25mph.
