Hey all,
About a month ago, my explorer had the "Check Charging system" light come on. The first sign of any problem with the truck. When it came on, was after sitting for about four days. Kinda funny, it happened 15 min. into a 7 hour beach trip. Pulled into a service station and pulled my meter out. Alterntator was putting out 14volts. By the time I got back in it, the light was off. I continued the trip and didnt see the light again.
This morning, I pulled the caps off and checked the battery with a hydrometer and found that all cells were almost down into the recharge area. Its been driven every day the past week. Its the origional battery, Going to replace it in the morning.
My question is, do you guys think the battery caused the light to come on, or may the Alt. be weak? It seems to be testing fine.

Same thing happenned to my 02 EB a few years ago. Replaced the battery and never had a problem with it again. These vehicles are hard on the charging system. Even more so if you have other stuff on in the vehicle all the time. The more options your vehicle has the more stress will be on the charging system.

hey all,
Just finished the battery change. Came out great. Got a 750cca for $99 and $20 off for a mail in rebate at ford. The mail in lasts untill 6/30/09 if anyone is interested. :D

had the same on my 04, yet the battery was brand new. mine was probably an alternator going bad as I was told the internal relay (built inside) can work on/off intermittenly, as sign it's going to crap out soon. Replaced the alternator as I was headed on the long trip. it's been good since.
