2005 Ford Explorer XLT
Hello all, let me start by saying thanks for dealing with my ignorance with the topic of customizing my ride.

First-I have a 05 Ford Explorer XLT 4x4. Stock. This weekend I am planning to sand/paint the rims black. I have done my research here and feel comfortable that I can do this just fine.

2 - I stopped by 4 wheel parts store here in Raleigh, NC today to ask about what size tires I could put on truck and they did not have any advice. I was told that the ones I had (235R16)'s were as big as I could go.
Is this true? I dont know if I want to paint my rims if I have to keep the small tires. I was going for a tougher look.

3 - Lift kits - the same store did not carry a kit for explorers? Recommendations?

I would like to avoid the lift if possible to fit a bigger tire on the stock rims...

Please advise. Any and all info is welcome.

Thanks!
Steve

2. 265/75R16 or 70R17 stock with no problems.

3. Lifts are available from a few different places, but to my knowledge, none are available in stores.
3.1. RoadBully Off Road offers spacers...mount to the top of the strut to increase ride height/ground clearance/wheel well clearance. $250 shipped for all four corners (correct me if I'm wrong) any size up to 3" front 2.5" rear although 1.5" is the minimum...
3.2. Coil Spring Specialties offer custom made coil springs to replace the factory springs...Sizes are up to 3" front and 2.5" rear I believe...$450-$600 I believe for all four corners depending on what you want.

Sorry Auburn, didn't see you post inside the blue.
