2005 XLT, IPOD interface, Factory radio

Just wondering what others have done for their Ipods in the vehicle.

FM Modules, or direct lines?

What works best for you. I have been thinking about the LogJam connection, but for the money, the FM Modulator might be a better option.

I'm sure this has been hashed out a lot, but searching didn't give me a whole lot.

what option you go with depends on the quality you want. if you don't mind a buzz when going under high voltage lines, or having to switch radio stations occasionally then the FM interface is the easiest way to link your iPod up. However it will suffer from poor audio quality the same ways your local FM stations do from time to time.

if you want a long term solution I would just go with a direct line in kit, if you can/have installed your own after market stereo this shouldn't be too difficult. or you can have a local car audio shop do the install.

however if you do go with the logJam or similar device I'd get the auxiliary input adapter instead of the iPod adapter, that way you can use it with any device with a headphone output (1/8")

I have the factory 6 disc in-dash radio. I didn't want to go away from that. There's the sat and aux buttons I was hoping to use. The problem is, the price. 160 dollars for a direct-line connection, seems steep. But I guess it's my only option if I don't want to settle for FM Transmitters.

$160? that sounds quite steep, it shouldn't cost more than $85 for the actual equipment, i installed an aux input for my dad's '05 explorer (it has the rear dvd) and learned during the process that unfortunately there are several different types of radios in the 2005 model year. they look similar on the front but if you take the radio out the pin out's on the back are different.

so before you order an aux input adapter you'll have to find out what type of pin out's you have. if you were planning on doing this yourself i'd just get the equipment off eBay, I got it from "integration_solutions" for my dad's job and it work's perfect.
here's an example of what to look for. make sure it is compatiable with your vehicle first though. the seller was helpful with my questions.

This should do it. It says 2006-2007 Explorer, but I could swear that the radios are the same, when I was looking at diagrams a while back.

That is the one I was referring to being 160, but its 169 actually.

I'm sure the AUX one from eBay would work and will go with that one.
