2005 XLT
Hey all- I just purchased a 2005 XLT 4.0 and LOVE IT. I'm really looking to keep the thing stock - I'm thinking about removing the running boards, putting on bigger AT's and trimming the not so fancy looking exhaust tip down till it is out of sight. (I really hate how they ran the pipe on the 3rd gens) For now though I'm interested in installing an intake system. (My buddy just threw a ****ty one on his jeep and we were amazed at the sound and power difference) - I was sold.

I've heard that the KKM product is the easiest and most compatible for the 2005 V6 just from scanning these forums but I'd like a first hand account from someone who is actually running this thing. Any noticeable MPG increase? How about a better engine drone? -Thats really what I'm looking for (Trying to bring a little noise from under the hood) Also, I've never really pulled anything off of either of my engines before so I'm looking for an easy project. (No cutting and reconfiguring- Just straight bolt on)

Anyone have suggestions? THANKS

I'm interested in exactly the same thing...

A back up[ option may be to purchase another air filter box and modify it to handle another type of filter.

I hope somebody (other than me!) picks up on this thread.

Ciao.

i made my own intake. it added 12hp. but K&N and MAC make a pretty good CAI.

I have the KKM on my 91 XLT and it made a world of difference, that and the flowmaster exhaust really woke that engine up. I am getting ready to order the KKM for my 04 NBX and install a flowmaster exhaust on it also, I am pretty sure that it will run as good on the 04 as it did on the 91. The thing about KKM is they ONLY deal with Ford/Lincoln/Mercury. I like mine!!!

i've got an 03 ex and was looking into an intake. does anyone have pics of a modded air box and what they did?

Your only real option is the one from KKM. I've talked to both the guys at K&N and Volant and they both said they are having problems making a CAI for the 04-05 V6 because it throws a code every time they design a new concept. I believe KKM gets around this by supplying a modified MAF. Can anyone clarify that?

You could also do what I did, throw in a K&N filter for $50 and call it a day :D
