Can someone tell me where the inspection port is on the 2006 6R transmission? My trany is leaking a bit and I want to check the fluid level before I create a bigger problem. What happened to the good old days when they put a dip stick on the transmission...

Welcome to this forum! I've moved your thread to the transmission section. There are plugs on the transmission that you have to remove to check the fluid level, and refill it. You could check the sticky thread called the 5R55W fluid fill to give you an idea on how to check everything. It's not the same transmission, but the procedure is similar.

I wondered when the 6R questions would start.

I have an answer for you that you will like.

Well.... here goes: As compared to your 5R cousins, you are in luck. The 6R DOES have a dipstick. "WHERE?" you ask, since you you don't see it in the engine compartment anywhere. Well... it is on (under actually) the fill plug. There is a hexagonal "fill" plug on the passenger side of the tranny near the front. Pull this plug and you will find the "dipstick". With a warm transmission, and the engine running, tranny in Park - wheels chocked and or emergency brake on (safety first), remove this plug and then separate the dipstick from the hex plug (it nests in the plug - you will understand when you do this), wipe it clean and then replace it in the hole until it bottoms, remove to read the level. Add fluid as needed. Reassemble the plug and stick and reinstall.

VOILA, fluid check 6R style!

I'll try and get something up. Meanwhile maybe someone with a 6R and a camera can help me out. (hint)

Here is the generalized view of the location near the passenger side front of the tranny for the plug and dipstick, showing the disptick being used to gauge fluid levels:

and here is the two (plug AND dipstick) together

They do separate as in the first illustration.

NOW, if those with 6R's can garner us some REAL pics to add, and we can do a sticky post? You will get credit for your efforts in that post, trust me.

(ahh, seems like I have been gone forever)
