Hi,

I'm probably the newest "newbie" here. I just traded in my 2001 Explorer Sport for a 2006 Explorer Eddie Bauer. It has what I believe is the Audiophile system (i.e., FM/AM/6-disc CD changer). My question regards what options do I have in adding XM radio capability with the OEM audio system. I'd like to use some direct connect versus RF modulated.

I've check out Best Buy and online options but I don't know know what connectors or interfaces the rear of the OEM system has to allow a direct connect.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Paul

Search through some of the other threads on here about the stereo and aux input. I have not found a solution, as soon as I can get my steering wheel controls to work with an Alpine unit I will be switching the radio to have XM and I-Pod

my solution with XM is the cup holder mount from belkin for the xm to go and via FM...

I was unable to find a direct solution for XM. The XM Direct unit from Terk does not work on the 06 models (as of right now) and the PIE www.pie.net connector also does not work on the 06. It seems Ford changed something in connectors/wiring in 06.

I ended up with a MyFi and the cupholder mount. I put the antenna on the dashboard in the center all the way up against the glass. I was able to hide the wire in the groove all the way up the center console. The reception is just as good as my other car which has the antenna mounted on the roof.

You can also look at www.xmfan.com for more help.

Good luck finding a solution.

I have my antenna on the roof (rear over the hatch/tailgate).
I ran my wire around, under center console, under the weather stripping on left rear and threshold foot plate on floor, then up the weather stripping to the edge of the plastic side and headliner gap, then back, up over window in gap to the plastic edge around tailgate opening and under weather stripping to allow antenna to be on the roof

Nav & Sirius install

I had an OEM audiophile system and found it totally inadequate in sound, expecially in bass. I had my dealer install before delivery, the nav system and the Sirius radio system. 2K later, they did a great job. I love the nav system, total factory OEM equipment, and the sound is great. My 05 Chrysler 300 Hemi had a stero system that would blow the doors off of the Fords. The antenna for the Nav system is under the dash, driver side, out of sight. The Sirius is in the center of the dash on top at the front end of the glass as mentioned in another post, and is perfect. I recommend the satellite radio over the oem for quality. There should be some speakers at ear height instead of all aimed at my ankle.
