2006 Explorer / Maybe a purchase

I used to be a long time member on here, back when I had owned my 1996 Eddie Bauer 4.0.

But got rid of it and gone w/ the wind.

Well I lost my log'in info and I tried to recover it, but it maybe from a old e-mail account that I had closed. So... yep, now I opened another account.

Well it's be a long time since I been away from ford and thought I moved on, but something about these newer Exploders are calling me.

So I have some questions.

Ok;

I am looking at a 2006 XLT w/ 4.0L, with 35K miles. 3rd row seats and roof ac / heat vents.

I am looking @ trading in my 2000 Subaru Legacy GT w/ 150K miles trouble free / never any issues except 1 failure to fuel injector and grabbing this 06 for it.

I been google'in and it seems there are some concerns about these 06's, but then again it maybe bunch of cry babies or Ford haters.

The major issue I am reading is the tranny shift hard and maybe the windows may not open or close.

Please all, can you share your thoughts about the 06 models.

Oh yea... if I get it, I will be getting it for less then 10K out the door

Oh forgot to mention, I do plan on getting the Ford extended warranty. Which is covers for 48 months or 100,000 miles. I think the cost for that is 1200.00. Thats what the stealership is charging me for it.

How about the cloth interior in this rig?

The color of the interior is tan. It so much reminds me of my old POS 2002 Jeep GC cloth interior. Which if you lay anything on it, it would stain. Even if it is water. How does the cloth interior hold up for stains?

I'm relatively new to Explorers, as we just bought a 06 mounty a few months ago. As far as I can tell, the shifting issue is the 6 sp tranny with the 4.6L. The V6's have issues with the radiator, or so I've heard.

My mounty has leather, so can't speak towards stains.

Sounds like a good price on the warranty. I would have gotten one, but the place I bought the mounty wanted 2K for a 3 year warranty...FTL

Good to know about the 4.0 are not having tranny issues. Also I plan to up the warrenty to a 100,000/60 month for $1470.00.
It just seems to be better.

What I am going to do is since the ford lot I am purchasing it from has an 08 Trailblazer, I want to compare it and see what would be better. But let me tell ya, the Xtended warrenty on the Chevy's is much more!! I wonder why!!:

I got a 6 year/100K Premium warranty from www.myfordwarranty.com for $1330 for my Explorer. They sell all types of warrantys for a few bucks over cost. They're legit and I've used them twice.

Ive got an 06 with 70k on it right now. 4.0 v6 in it.

Ive never had problems with the tranny, thats only with teh 6spds in the v8's.

Ive never had teh radiator problem everyone talks about.

The only thing I can complain about is the interior. I have a couple stains already from minor things....it does not come out easily. I would have much rather had a dark interior.

The only other thing to check out is the rear axle seal. Many of these 06's have axle seals that go out and cause the fluid to leak. Mine was replaced at 50k.

Other than that, I love it.

Cool! We ended up getting it. I too think this is a great buy. The manufacture warranty was out by couple months. So that was not cool beans.

The exploder for the hundred miles I already drove is really nice, super quite and just feels solid! Accelerates quick and the kids love all the space in it. Stereo sounds nice w/ clean bass and it’s just an XLT. I have yet to mess w/ the MP3 in it.

Only thing I plan to get for it is the extended warranty and some new tires.
