Need some feedback before making a purchase

AlexK,

Thank you for your reply. I just did not want to talk with a local sales person. With you being in NJ that is fine, you would have no reason to give me bad info. Even if you were local I still do not think you would because you are a member of this site and it appears you like helping other Explorer owners, WHICH IS A GOOD THING, thank you.

I talked with some people over the weekend, researched a lot on the internet, all the replies on this site (thank you all), I have created a pro's and con's list and now can make an educated decision on what to do. I also found a site that gives you the formula on how to figure out your payments, does the math for a 3 year lease, and compares it to taking out a loan and buying the car. Great site and really showed me the ups and downs.

So thank you all and "alexk" & "peterk9" for your honest replies, I appreaciate all the info.

Hopefully I will be driving a new Explorer by next weekend.:):):):):):)

:D I finally did it. I do not have to worry about what will go wrong with my 2004 Explorer anymore!!! If things go right by tomorrow afternoon I should be the proud owner of a:

2013 Ford Explorer XLT:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

I can not believe I did it. Boy is the wife going to be upset when she finds out (she does not know:mad:).

The difference in the two vehicles is night and day. The 2013 is so nice, drives great and looks good. It has all the options I would want in a car and more. (Hope I can figure that Ford computer stuff)

If anyone hears a load noise tomorrow afternoon it will probably be my wife shooting me when I pull into the driveway with it.:eek::eek:

Thank you everyone for all your help. I guess I will be changing my status now from 2004 to 2013 Ford Explorer XLT:D

Congratulations on your new car!

On a side note, thank you for your service :)

Well according to me its an wise decision because according to me the Explorer 2011 is more good in all things from your old drive. So i think you should move on 2011. Gud Luck

:Dnow that I am a X-2004 Ford Explorer owner and now have a 2013 XLT I feel great (bank does partially own it for 2 years). With all the rebates and my X-plan discount I got almost $7,000 fo the sticker price. I thought that was pretty good. I like it so it is good enough for me and that is all that counts.

For those of you who did not hear a gun shot yet! I will not be picking it up until Saturday, I had them do a couple things to it. So Saturday go outside and listen for my wife's reaction:eek::eek::eek::eek:. (unless the stuff does not come in today then I will not get it until Monday or Tuesday) But everything is signed now and it is my car. I am so happy I bought it and it is so much better than my 2004.:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

If any of you were wondering ( cnsheets ) YES my status of being married to divorced COULD change! But I really do not care anymore, it was my time to buy a car (she was the last one to get a car) and IT IS MY MONEY I SAVED UP. So I know it is a 50/50 relationship but I was getting tired of thinking what was going to break down next on my 2004. I know I had to replace both front wheel bearings and both front upper ball joints and pricing the fix verses what the car was worth and what I have had to put into it the last couple years it was time for a change because of the value of the 2004.

So I have bored you all enough. I am happy and thank you all for your answers and help. I still can not believe how nice the 2013 Ford Explorer's are.
:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

Congrats......

Just tell wifey that you feared for your safety driving the old explorer, so you had to upgrade to something safer, tell her that you had to do it for HER, because you love her and care for her so much that you wanted to ensure you'll be around for a long time to provide for her..... blah, blah, blah.....you get the point :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

However, you need to make sure you post some pictures.......

Congrats on pulling the trigger on the deal. Let's hope that is the only trigger that gets pulled.:D BTW, is your Will up to date? ;)

Peter

Congratulations! I'm sure you will love your 2013 every bit as much as we love ours :)

THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR COMMENTS AND SUGGESTIONS.;)

FIRST I HAVE TO ANSWER AN IMPORTANT QUESTION:

NO, MY WILL IS NOT UP TO DATE. IF I AM DECEASED I WILL NOT CARE WHAT HAPPENS.:D

"cnsheets", you had a good idea but I have used that one before on her. I am also a retired cop, so I have used that on a few excuses!!!!

I went to the dealer today just to look at it while she was gone. It is so pretty, I do not even want to drive my 2004 anymore. They did not have much of a color variety when I went so I had to settle for what they had. But it is still really nice and I love the looks and the interior. It is Tuxedo Black (has metal flake in it) and a tan color interior. Only 8 miles on it so I can not tell the wife it is used:(. I did get the extended warranty because I do not put a lot of miles on my vehicles and I have always made out when I purchased the extended ESP plan. I got a good price off the internet and took it in and told the dealer I want that price or I am buying it from the Ford dealer on the internet (our of NJ, real cheap prices for all ESP plans). Well they matched it, so I got the 7yrs/100,000 premium ESP for $1295. Which I thought was very good since I had to pay $2100 for the wifes Lincoln (but hers was used).

I came home and the wife was there. She asked were I was and I told her I was looking at cars. She said did you find something and I said maybe, I do not know yet they have to consider my offer for the car and my trade. She then ASKED HOW MUCH IS IT! Well my heart fell to the floor and I told her you do not want to know. She got a little upset and said YES I do! i told her I was not sure yet if the deal will go through. She then got a little upset and told me if you don't want to tell then fine!!!!

So at least now she has an idea about tomorrow:(. But she still thinks I am looking at used cars:D. So listen outside tomorrow after 2pm and if you hear a load noise, you will all know that there is a 2013 Explorer with low miles on it for sale in Ohio because the owner is deceased!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:(

What ever happens it is worth it, the car is beautiful. Hopefully I will be still living or in a good enough physical condition to drive it.

So thank you all!!!!!!!!!!!! I hope I have not broke any rules on this forum for not really being on topic but I am so excited. It has been about 20 years since I bought a brand NEW car. I am sorry if my comments to the forum are wrong and it will not happen again. (at least not until I get it paid off in 2 years ?)

I will post pictures after everything settles down (next week, I hope).

Have a nice weekend everyone.:D

You have broken no rules, lol. This is your thread to discuss whatever you want! :)

The wifey may fuss a bit at first, but let her drive it and she'll see the light, and probably want to take it from ya :D

WELL IN ABOUT AN HOUR i WILL BE LEAVING TO GET MY NEW 2013 EXPLORER XLT.

Everyone go outside and listen for any noises!!!:D

I just received my Consumer Reports buying guide today.
They did another job on the Explorer again. I can not believe them. I checked it when I bought my 2004 and they gave it bad marks then and I still bought it. It turned out to be one of the best cars I ever owned!

Now they are giving black marks to the 2012/2013 Explorer, I really do not understand them.

VinceL= thanks for letting me know I did not break any rules. I know the wife will get upset at first, ONLY because she did not get a new car this time. But after she drives it I hope she will fall in love with it as I have.

We take turns buying cars. She got the last newer car so it is my turn. But some times she just does not understand. She is the type that if I buy a T-shirt she gets mad because I did not buy her one too. Oh well.:(

That is any easy problem to address. Buy her a Ford Explorer 'T' shirt.

sgtdon, calling sgtdon......

You make it home alive?

The silence is deafening!

Well I got home yesturday about 3:30pm. when I pulled into the driveway with my NEW 2013 Explorer XLT NO ONE CAME OUT TO LOOK AT IT.

I waited in the garage for a few minutes but stil now one came out. I then walked into the house which was very cold. My wife did not say anything until I spoke to her. I told her I bought a car and she just looked at me with discuss. I asked if she would like to look at it and she said NO. She then asked how much did I pay for it and I told her. After she pulled her mough back up from the floor she said can we afford it? I told her yes and we still have plenty in the saving. She then said that it was not fair because she did not get a car that cost that much. I told her when we bought her car (Lincoln Continetal) that she wanted a continetal and they stopped making it in 2002 AND THAT IS WHAT SHE WANTED! So that is why I did not spen a lot of money for her car. I asked her again if she wanted to see it or go for a ride and she told me NO again and that it was my car and she was not getting near it. I told her it would be great for trips and when she goes out of state to visit her relatives. My wife then said I WILL NOT DRIVE THAT G__ d___ THING, IT IS YOUR CAR AND i AM NOT GOING TO TOUCH IT. Then she told me to drop it before she goes off on me. So I walked away. It was very cold in our home the rest of the night. She did not speak to me at all. BUT NO GUN SHOTS!!!!!!

This morning the ice in the home did not even thaw yet. I even turned up the furnace with negative results. She has not spokne yet since this writting. Hopefully she will come around. The car is beautiful and I am sure wants she calms down she will like it but wants she has an opinion on something it takes and act of GOD to change her mind.

So I am very happy with it and plan on having many years of pleasure driving my new car. If she drives it fine, if not it is her loss and will never experience the pleasure in driving a fine automobile.;)

Thank you all for your comments. THE T-SHIRT IDEA WAS A GOOD ONE BUT I THINK IT WOULD ADD MORE COALS TO THE FIRE!!:(

I really think she is jealous even though it was my turn to get a car.

I will try and get pictures on the Monday or Tuesday.

Oh, if anyone knows, I had the remote start put in before I picked it up. It started at the dealer and then when I got home I tried the secound key and it did not start. I them (later tried the first key and it did not start. So I do not know what is going on. Niether key will remote start the vehicle now????

Later,

Later,
I don't know if it works the same as the factory installed one or not. On the factory one you have to press LOCK on the fob first then the start (2X) button twice.
The Owner's Guide also states that the remote start will not work if "Two remote vehicle starts have been attempted in the last hour."

Peter

Congratulations again on the car...

Seeing as how the wife isn't too excited at this point (time heals all wounds and I'm sure she'll come around), we will all be excited for you!! :)

Post some pics of the new ride when you get a chance and enjoy that thing!!!!! :D

THANK YOU ALL AGAIN FOR THE COMMENTS!:)

peterk9-you were right! I also forgot one of the main rules when trying to do something. "WHEN IN DOUBT......READ THE INSTRUCTIONS":D:D:D:

I was not pressing the lock door buttom first, DUHHH. I had it installed before I picked up the car and it is just like the factory installed one from Ford. From what I read if it is not a Ford one it will not work because of the MYKEY and other security features?? It does not matter it is a Ford one anyways.

Does anyone know if it is worth it to buy the Sinc program if you do not have texting on your phone????? I have read some of it and the features are nice but it sounds like you need to have the texting activated on your phone?

The wife is still a little cold but thawing a little. She still will not look in the car or drive it. She is leaving tomorrow to visit relatives out of state so I will have pleanty of time to grab some pictures of the car and post them while she is gone. I really do not want to do it while she is here.

So thanks all, we have had fun during the last week. I hope all of you have a wonderful holiday and do not eat to much.

I'm not sure what radio your vehicle has, but the texting function should be built into Sync, no purchase is necessary. As for Sync Services, we hardly ever use it. Actually, I'm not sure we ever used it, lol. We did use the Sirius Travel Link stuff for gas prices, weather, and traffic (and surprisingly, it was right about the traffic sometimes!), but the free trial has run out. We never listened to Sirius radio, so we are in no big hurry to renew. Got our first call from Sirius just today, so we'll let 'em sweat a bit more to get a good price :)

Oh, and I'll tell ya this now, you really need to read the owners manual front to back and back to front. These cars are capable of doing so many things, that you can miss out on some cool functionality if you skip the homework, lol. Have fun :)
