2006 Explorer - Timing Chain Question

Its torn down and waiting on the owner to get the parts.

On your #3 miss, try swapping plugs and/or wires to see if it follows it. You think the intake gasket might have gotten pinched or something? check engine light or any code?

Try swapping the injector with a different cylinder and see if it follows it.

Good luck, let us know what you find out. I might have the same problem.

Yeah, I tried swapping wires between 3 and 2, no change, swapped plugs between 1 and 2, no change. Since it is a wasted spark system and 2 and 6 fire at the same times I also swapped them and no change. intermittent P0302 every time, not stored but pending. I did have a time getting the plug back into 2 so I hope I didn't cross thread anything. Might pull the inner fender so I can have a closer look and run a thread chaser down the hole just to clean things up. Next is a compression test, and go from there.

Afraid not. Maybe they will get the parts and I can finish it out next month.

Good to hear you got it going. What was causing the miss?

Blown Seal on #2 injector. thought I swapped it but when I pulled them for the leak there it was. Didn't oil them properly when I installed them. My guess was it pinched and popped. Had a river of gasoline in the bottom of the valley when I finally figured it out. I haven't checked the compression on 2, but there is no more tick so I'm thinking the seafoam also freed up whatever was slowing down that lifter.

my 06 ford explorer 4.0l v6 the original timing chain tensioner broke the front and the back, replaced all the timing tensioners and gears and bolts about 15,000 miles later boom happens again replaced it and now at 160,000 its out of time again...... getting it towed to the house tomorrow to start pulling everything apart and pull my motor out for the 3rd time!
