2006 ford escape rear end

I have. A 2006 ford escape xlt 3.0 all wheel drive I’m having a few problems 1 I replaced the rear wheel bearings and now the 4x4 light in the dash cluster comes on and starts flashing it didn’t do that before 2 I have a popping noise coming from the rear of the vehicle almost like something is binding up when i go to turn or I’m in reverse something binds up real bad it didn’t do that before I change the wheel bearings now it dioes I’ve heard that these vehicles are known for the rear end going out in them I’m wondering is the problem in the rear end or could it be the drive shaft or something else I haven’t mentioned I don’t have much experience with ford rear end please can someone please point me in the right direction as to what the light the popping and whatever is binding up im
