Hello everyone,
I have a 2006 Ford Explorer V8 that I need to do some maintenance on. I am planning on switching the rear diff fluid to Amsoil as well as the transmission fluid to Amsoil ATF. I have 2 questions about this though.
1) I read that the Explorer takes 75w140 gear oil, but have been told by an Amsoil rep as well as a mechanic that I can use 75w90 to increase my fuel economy and still not risk any damage to the diff since I don't do any towing or severe driving. I need to know what you all think about this and if it sounds like a good idea.
2) On my last oil change I was looking around the engine bay and couldn't find a transmission dipstick. I asked a mechanic about this and he said that the new Explorers don't have dipsticks. I find this slightly hard to believe so I need to know if this is true or not. If it is true, how am I to check the transmission fluid level after I do a flush?
Thanks in advance for any info you guys can give me.
