I was wondering if I can swap my 4.0l v6 for a 4.6l v8 on my 07 explorer, because I put a bunch of miles on mine so I wanted to know if I can swap it for a v8

Not easy, by any means. Have you swapped engines before, before there was any electronics involved? If you can do the mechanical work, that's not even half of it, anymore. imp

Different trans too, and lots of electronic integrations

Short answer, yes. This is easiest with a complete donar vehicle, preferably of the same year, or very close. It’s a substantial amount of work, and probably not terribly cheap, but completely possible.

That is a lot of work just to gain .6L, best thing to do is buy a V8 model.

I was going to ask my mechanic to swap for me.

I’ll probably bid on a crashed one from copart

Not really a mechanic job. The V6 engine replace from a wreckers straight across is 15 hrs, and close to 5g labour and parts not including an engine from the wreckers up here alone. That's without pulling the transmission, which you would have to do. A doable home project over a winter, but you could probably buy a new vehicle for what it would cost you in shop time.

That was my idea too. I have my old working 4.6 sitting in my garage, and with my son's 4.0 making funny noises, I was going to maybe swap it.
I pulled the v8 out of my 06 twice, we pulled the transmission from the 4.0 07 as well so I am somewhat familiar with the mechanical part of it.
We had both trucks apart in pieces in my driveway at different times and I could do anything I wanted with them.

You would also need a 6R60/80. They also come with different transfer cases from what I remember (4210 vs 4212). Not sure the driveshafts are the same lenght.
The exhaust is different, manifolds, the entire ECM, TCM (in the tranny) and corresponding harness, air intake, all the bracketry, AC compressor, PS pump, alternator,......

Interesting and tempting if you can get a donor for $ 500, and do it yourself.
Otherwise not worth it, trust me.
And I get your feelings, I am attached to my cars as well.

You can find an 06-07 v8 eddie bauer for 3-4k.

The cost of all above plus labor would be easily $ 5,000
