2000 Ford Explorer Limite
Hi All,

I am looking to upgrade my 2000 Explorer limited with a 2007 Explorer Sport Trac. Can anyone give me a few pointers on what to look for in these trucks? Any major problems known with these trucks? Do you think 97K is too many miles to purchase this truck? The dealer is asking 14,900 for the truck...I wouldn't pay over 11,500 for it (in my opinion). Its a 4x4 with a bed cover.

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Wes

How many miles on your 2000? 97K is a ALOT of miles! I only paid 12,500 for my '06 X two years ago with 33K miles, from a dealer. I'd keep the Limited, or look for a cheaper truck. Heck, 2010 XLT's w/ low miles are going for only 22K up here.

I paid 14,300 for my 2007 mountaineer premier V8 loaded, with 93,000. and the bank said it was a deal and there would be 3000 in equity in truck.

Pointer #1 would be to have the Ford Dealer change he spark plugs before you buy the truck. because there is a huge chance of the spark plugs breaking off in engine.

Pointer #2 have the Ford Dealer replace the Tranny filter and Flush system, as you can not do it your self.

Pointer #3 Have the Ford Dealer give you the door key code if you have that option.

Pointer #4 If V8 listen to the engine, the top half is usually noisy there could be a faulty lifter,

Pointer #5 If V8 listen for exhaust leaks, the exhaust manifolds warp and leak.

I have a 1997 explorer with 200,000 miles and original u-joint,axels,bearings,trans,and transfer case, everything works on the truck, (I did replace the engine I blew it up four wheeling) That is why I bought my mountaineer with 93000 miles on it; I know they run for ever!
