The luxury SUV segment has always been about style. It’s for those who are looking to make a statement, a vehicle that exudes a certain kind of street appeal. On one hand, the full-size luxury SUV is the canvas for the Hip-Hop generation, creating their art with large glittering wheels, sparkling paint jobs and elegantly appointed interiors. On the other, it’s a reward for a job well done, a chance to experience the finer things in life.

For the last nine years, the Lincoln Navigator has represented both worlds. The Navigator is the original full-size luxury SUV. Launched in 1997, it set the standards for all those who followed, and followed they did. For 2007, Lincoln launches a new Navigator that is expected to breathe new life into the segment and redefine American luxury.

The 2007 Navigator has a bold, fresh new design and is loaded with advancements in comfort, convenience, refinement and capability. For the first time, Lincoln expands the Navigator line, offering the extended Navigator L with even more capability.

“Every year, 300,000 customers move up from domestic brands to luxury cars and SUVs,” says Sandra Deas, Navigator marketing manager. “The new Navigator is sure to grab its fair share of these customers, offering the style and comfort they expect along with the confident ride and handling, quality craftsmanship and class-leading capability they deserve.”

Navigator’s new design is focused around the broad chrome grille, inspired by the Lincoln Star. The strong horizontal and vertical lines help set the theme and the headlamps and fog lamps are integrated into the lower grille.

Inside, Navigator demonstrates what American luxury is all about. The cabin is elegantly appointed and well crafted. The flow-through center console is the centerpiece, trimmed in real wood and housing the available navigation system and audio and HVAC controls. The purposeful layout is uncluttered and sophisticated. Wood trim wraps the upper portion of the cabin accenting the doors, instrument panel face and steering wheel. Warm steel and chrome accents add the finishing touch. Navigator is available in Camel with Anigre wood accents or Charcoal Black with Ebony accents.

Navigator offers 18.2 cubic-feet of cargo space behind the third row and 103.5 cubic-feet of cargo space with both second and third rows folded flat. The extended Navigator L offers 42.7 cubic-feet behind the third row and 128.2 cubic-feet of cargo-carrying space. Both second and third row seats have articulating headrests that allow them to be folded out of the driver’s rear view when not in use.

Available comfort and convenience features include a DVD-based, navigation system with a 6.5-inch touch screen and voice recognition, a 600-watt THX II audio system with 6-disc, in-dash CD changer and 14 speakers, and an available rear seat entertainment system with an 8-inch screen and two wireless headphones.

Navigator’s 5.4-liter 3-valve Triton V-8 makes 300 horsepower and 365 lb-ft of torque mated to a six-speed automatic transmission. Navigator continues to be the only luxury full-size SUV to offer a six-speed. An all-new, stiffer chassis and refined independent rear suspension give Navigator its quiet, confident ride. Advancements like an acoustic-laminated windshield, thicker side glass and tuned side mirrors and tires contribute to provide a very quiet, comfortable cabin.

An impressive suite of safety features starts with standard AdvanceTrac® with Roll Stability Control (RSC®). This feature utilizes a second gyroscopic roll rate sensor to greatly enhance the vehicle’s rollover resistance. It provides industry-leading rollover prevention with improved response and robust control strategy. Improvements in the system provide improved control levels when needed, on a wider range of road conditions.

The comprehensive safety package includes dual-stage front air bags, thorax side-impact air bags for the first row of seats, three-row side curtain airbags with roll-fold technology and a stroking steering column that strokes to 3 or 4 inches to absorb energy during an impact. The new frame design meets the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers vehicle-to-vehicle frontal crash compatibility standard.

Navigator comes standard with a tire-pressure monitoring system, child safety locks, LATCH (Lower Anchors and Tethers for Children) system in the second row, and the SECURILOCK™ anti-theft system. SECURILOCK™ is designed to help prevent the engine from being started unless a coded key programmed to the vehicle is used.
