The second hose from the left is broke off. What does it go to?

On mine the nipples coming off the rear heater core cracked and broke off right where it meets the rubber hose, but it was wet in the same spot as yours. From what your saying sounds like its cracked on the opposite end. Those hoses go into long aluminum tubes that go to the front of the vehicle probably to the water pump. I've been told they rot out from the road salt over time

The picture is not actually from my vehicle, it just shows the hoses I was having problems with. My hose was broken off just like yours, so according to what you said, I need to start looking for a new heater core then. I guess for now I could use one of the hoses and bypass the rear heater core until I can get the parts together to fix it. Thanks a lot for the info. Now I know where to start.

You can bypass the rear unit If you don’t need heat back there. You’ll still have the a/c. The auxillery unit is $200-something from Ford and you have to evacuate the a/c too as it’s all in one unit back there. Having the rear unit also means it takes 3.5 gallons of 50/50 gold coolant. It’s a pita but I chose to fix it the proper way with having a little one.

I priced a rear heater core for around $45. How hard is it to tear the interior out on the left side to get to it. Can you do it without disturbing the AC lines?
