Hi, all,

Plans are to go take a look at the subject vehicle to replace a much-despised mini-van. I am not familiar at all with all-wheel drive. I've read thru other threads of folks asking for advice about what to look for in this generation, but is there anything in particular I should be looking for concerning AWD? Considering how much I despise front-wheel drive vehicles, am I setting myself up for further frustration? I certainly don't need an AWD vehicle, but this one meets all the other criteria, and they are few and far between around here.

Thanks in advance.

Depending on whether it has the V6 or the V8 engine it will really just be a 4x4 with an automatically engaging front driveline (V8 setup) or it will be a true AWD with an approximately 40/60 power distribution between the front and rear (V6 setup). Either way it will not drive like the newer unibody platforms with FWD.

I have the 06 Premier.

Other than the $5000 in repair costs over the past 3 years, I love it. The repairs were the common one's found on these forums (plugs, headers/header bolts, 3rd row seats, wheel bearings, etc, etc), all covered by an aftermarket warranty. Word of advice - if the dealer offers an aftermarket warrant, BUY IT!!

Throw a set of Firestone Destinations on it and it's unstoppable in the snow.

yup but make sure if you drive a lot the miles got high enough. when i got my ford ESP plan i got only 3 years but i did 60K miles so it lasted 119K miles. so far it covered a bad Alt and axle seal. yea not getting my moneys worth yet but over the next 4K miles i have left im trying to find anything else to be fixed but i guess i have a good explorer lol.
