Howdy again!
My 5R55S transmission in the 2008 Exploder was rebuilt at 146,000 miles. It now has 192,000 miles. The transmission is a 5R55S. It hangs in 1st gear until I either let off the gas, at which time it shifts into 2nd and works fine thereafter, or I give it gas until it approaches redline, and then it will shift into 2nd gear. Throws CODE P0731. So, I drive it like a Granny. Reverse works fine. all other gears work fine.I typically turn the Overdrive off in city driving. The truck has recently decided to turn the dashboard O/D light completely dark, 5 minutes after I put it in drive with the O/D light lit up showing it has been selected to the OFF position. The tranny was overhauled by the previous owner's shop about 45,000 miles back, and is now exhibiting the delayed shift from 1st to 2nd gear. Other than that, it works well. Reverse engages promptly, as does 1st. It will kick down when asked. Local guy drove it, plugged it into a tester, looks at me and says all the gears are gone (even though they are each obviously shifting from 1 thru 5, and he wants $2200 to rebuild it. The last time it was rebuilt, receipt says they replaced the Solenoid Body, Pump Valve, Torque Converter, installed two sleeves, replaced 3 Bands and the Overdrive plate or planet (cannot read the receipt here). I only want to fix the 1st to 2nd gear flare, so that I don't have to worry about a redline shift or drive so slow as to back up traffic. The tranny works fine otherwise. If anyone has any suggestions or comments, I am all ears! I plan on going for a second opinion, but if anyone here has any inkling of the cause of my tranny problem, it would help when being sold a bill of goods.
