2008 Explorer AC black death?

I removed the orifice tub in my 08 explorer 4.0L and found that is was clogged. See the pics below, is this black death? If so, what is the next step? I have read that all of the AC components need to be replaced (hoses, compressor, accumulator, etc). I have read that flushing the system wont work?

Well, if all the AC components have to be replaced then what is the harm in cleaning up as much of the crude that you can without flushing, installing a new orifice tube and recharging the system? Then see what happens from there.
