Hello fellow Sport Trac'ers. I recently purchased a mint condition 2007 Ford Explorer Sport Trac 4.6L 4x4 with 89000 miles and love love love it. However, it is an old vehicle and does not have some of the modern features. Also, I am not able to keep well enough alone and like to personalize or customize every vehicle I own. So, I have noticed that the running boards are very chunky and take away from the clean lines of the truck. If I was to take them off, I would expose the frame rails that hang down below the truck and look unsightly. So, I was thinking about finding some powered running boards to solve both issues. Has anyone attempted this? Thank you.

I have a 2010 ST with 52,000 miles and recently took off the running boards couple with a leveling kit front and back. I like the look without the running boards though you are correct as the frame is more exposed. One gets used to it, its like comparing a 55" vs a 60" LED/TV in your library after a week.

I have powered running boards and they do provide a clean look and improve ground clearance. You might want to check and see if your truck is wired for them. Mine is controlled by the PCM and through it I can set whether they deploy, stay up or stay down. I can't recall if I have seen these put on a Sport Trac. Also, they are quite expensive to acquire. They came on a lot of Ford trucks so you might find some in a salvage yard. There are replacement motors available on Amazon if you find a set that doesn't work.
