Rear Inflatable seatbelts
The rear inflatable seatbelts are a late availabilaty item. Can the inflatable seatbelts be ordered through the parts dept and installed by the dealer to replace regular seatbelts on an Explorer that was ordered before the factory inflatable belts were available?

Could you be more specific on what trim level you ordered? Looking forward to a new thread and lots of pictures!!!

Mini Spare
I believe Mishtar is correct in that it is a mini spare. In the documentation I received from my salesman, under Tires it shows the base model with P245/65R17 BSW all-seasons and Mini spare. The only changes as you move through the XLT and Limited models is the tire size of the all-seasons. This would seem to indicate that the Mini spare applies to all models. Not what I would have expected for this vehicle. All 3 Toyota Highlanders that I have had had full size spares. I guess I'll keep my fingers crossed that I won't need to use it. That could be interesting if you had a flat while driving off the beaten path!Does anyone know this; Does the new explorer have a full size spare tire?

So, this thing is longer and wider than the 2010 Explorer, has less cargo space, and a mini spare? Sounds like some excellent space management to me.
Well, it seems to me they increased the PASSENGER space (legroom etc.) - that might explain this "mystery"..

There better be a lot more passenger space then.

Looking at the specs of the 2010 and 2011, it appears that there is a loss of 3 cu. ft. of cargo room. Unfortunately only the 2010 specs seem to state passenger volume (151.7 cu ft). I also noticed that the Canadian brochure for the 2010 shows 82.8 cu. ft. behind the front seats while the US version has 83.7. (The new one has 80.7) That indicates that the loss in cargo volume for the Canadian Explorer is only 2.1 cu. ft. Unless you always pack it to the rafters, I doubt that the average owner would notice the difference. Also, keep in mind that the platform on which it is built has changed so that could also affect interior volume regardless of the fact that overall demensions have increased. There better be a lot more passenger space then.
Happy New Year to all from this 'newbie'.

As far as can interpret from the vehicle site, you get a mini spare unless you get the trailer tow package. With trailer tow, you get a "Tire Mobility Kit" which is usually a bottle of Slime and an inflation can. I assume they were unable to package the mini along with the hitch hardware.
Imagine trying to fix a serious puncture in the boonies! The more I learn, I am glad I got a 2010.
With that being said, I also believe that for the vast majority of the market, the 2011 is probably a better vehicle and likely to sell far better than the outgoing 2010. At the end of the day, Ford makes decisions to serve the largest market and be PROFITABLE.

So, mreed112, if I read that right, you're saying that there is no spare tire if you get a trailer tow package?
Got curious a little bit about the weight so I looked up the curb weight of the new Ex and it appears to actually be more than the 2010 model...
2010: 4632 lbs (4WD model) [Corrected number]
2011: 4,765 lbs (4WD model)
The weights are from the sources I found, don't know if they vary on other websites.

Weight depends greatly on options and 4WD/FWD. I've seen so many numbers for the 2011 I'm not sure what's official and what's speculation/estimates. 2010 4x4 models are ~4632 lbs and the 4x2 versions are your ~4455 lbs.

Someone on the website I looked at must have mistaken the 2wd number for a 4wd number...Maybe I misread. Thanks for pointing that out and posting the correct weight.

Not sure I'd be comfortable towing 5K with a defective tire filled with slime.

Poor Flexplorer. This is what it has to compete with from Dodge for 2011. RWD, Hemi V-8, a real 4x4 system, and awesome style. I suppose the Flexplorer could go over to the Honda CR-V's sandbox and play a little

Why would the Flexplorer need a real spare tire? Nobody's going to be using these things for anything more than going to the grocery store or taking the kids to soccer practice. They'll never see any real SUV action. So what's the point? A donut or a can of slime should do the trick. Fortunately, my Explorer has a full size spare. Of course, it's a real SUV unlike the imitation Flexplorer.

Thaywood- Judging from your post, it's obivious that you dislike the new Explorer. But deeeeeeeep down, you know you want one
Also, without question, the Explorer will outsell the Durango.
