2011 seems to be holding me back with brakes or transmission

Found this on Inside Line:

"The 2011 Explorer will feature such fuel-saving hardware as electric power-assisted steering, battery management, variable-displacement air-conditioning compressor and "aggressive deceleration fuel shutoff," as well as a six-speed automatic transmission."

The "aggressive deceleration fuel shutoff" must be what ya'll are feeling. Don't have my Ex yet to test it out but seem logical.

Aggressive deceleration shutoff implies slamming on the breaks, not coasting, but the explanation peter posted in another thread says this is most likely what is happening.

My Camry does that, it's a characteristic of the drivetrain, I was told by the dealer. Just another thing I don't like about it. 2 other Camry's I drove on the lot did the same thing. Let off the gas on even flat land, and it feels like an engine brake. If you have your foot resting on the gas, even very slightly, it doesn't do it. :dunno:

My wife's Camry does this very noticeably. Happens occasionally on the Ex. This is normal.

I believe mine does the same thing too. I notice that if I just barely touch the throttle, it feels like it's coasting as I would expect it too, but if I'm fully off the throttle, it feels like it's slowing me down ever so slightly.

Bingo... I think everyone is experiencing the same systems for fuel consumption reduction...

It is just a guess though. To further quote, and possible repeat, info from the document I have; Aggressive Deceleration Fuel Shut-off (ADFSO), *Temporarily interrupts fuel delivery and consumption when the vehicle normally skows down while maintaining normal engine operation. *System uses transmission to keep the engine running at a low, more fuel efficient operationg level whenever possible. *Normal fuel delievry resumes when the vehicle reaches a low speed or when the driver accelerates.

That is it!
Now if someone could tell me what the plus + minus - on the shifter does or means I'll be happy!

It allows you to shift gears yourself, ie manual without a clutch. You can control the gear the car is in rather than the automatic transmission. Kinda like paddle shifters without the paddles.

This happens in my 2011 XLT Explorer as well. I feel a slight braking feeling if I "coast" without having my foot on brake or gas. Its a werid feeling... funny part is I drove my fathers 2011 Limited to compare and his doesn't feel the same way at all. Its normal compared to mine.
