Hi,

Just finished fixing the “wipers stay on forever” issue on my 2012 explorer. When on the next highway drive the weatherstripping of the windshield on the passenger side decided to break and fly away. Been trying to find similar examples on the forum, but most are around the a style itself being broken. Which in my case still looks perfectly fine. Attached picture has some “dirty” parts, this is just some glue from the tape I used to temporarely hold remnants in place (not the brightest idea in Atlanta heat).

So to actually properly fix it:

- Can I replace the trim without removing the a style top part (as judging by the forum these are not exactly made to be removed and put back again)? If I need to replace the top part I’ll find the experiences between oem and aftermarket, but if anyone would like to share I am all ears.

- Is there a partnumber for just the weathertrim? Or is it connected to either the top or bottom part of the a style parts?

Thanks in advance.

Rgds, Piet

Interesting you should bring this up. I had some noise coming from the passenger side and noticed that the trim on the outside of my windshield is loose enough to flap a little bit at high speed. It hasn't flown off yet, so this tells me I need to take care of it sooner than later.

On the driver side, it looks like a previous owner fixed it with some kind of black sealant, maybe silicone. It's not a particularly well-done fix, but it works, I guess. I may redo it the same time I figure something out for the passenger side.

Anyway, according to the service manual, the part numbers involved are:
03136 / 03137 Windshield applique (Right Hand (RH) / Left Hand (LH))
03136 / 03137 Windshield applique bracket (Right Hand (RH) / Left Hand (LH))

Using those numbers, I found the full part number for each:
BB5Z-7803136-BA / BB5Z-7803137-BA

I'm guessing these are supposed to be kits containing both the bracket and applique. The weather trim appears to be attached.

These seem to run $80-90 on most of the parts sites, a little cheaper on eBay.

You will likely end up replacing the 'A' pillar applique as well.

Thank you both. @peterk9 was afraid of that conclusion. Will see if I can find the bottom and top part for a decent price somewhere.

If you end up replacing the 'A' pillars make sure you get the plastic clips as well.

On my '16, the weather stripping is pre-attached to the outer trim piece. I don't think you'll get just the weather strip from Ford, maybe aftermarket, IDK. I recently replaced both inner and outer pieces on both sides. Not cheap, but they both needed it. The clips were already installed on the inner piece. I don't know of you can get them separately or not.

I bought garage door weatherstripping, the kind that nails to the bottom of the garage door.

Just a little trimming with a sharp razor and I had a replacement gasket with a similar look to the original gasket.

I used some black caulk to hold the new gasket in place.
