Hi Guys,

2012 Explorer with 120k miles on it. No harsh driving at all - just normal stuff. Coolant has been getting low and we noticed coolant is leaking onto the flywheel cover. It seems to be concentrated on this area and nowhere else. I can't tell where it's coming from. We have a pressure tester and applied 15-16lbs of pressure - no leak but the pressure does drop about 1psi per few minutes.

We've taken off the upper manifold to inspect the coolant hoses and all seem good with no signs of any leak and are dry. I originally thought it could be the water pipe that routes under the lower intake manifold but it too seems dry at the point where it connects to the thermostat housing.

Interestingly, it appears to leak when the engine is running. I can't figure out where it could be coming from and why coolant is just pooling at the flywheel cover Any thoughts on where this leak may be coming from?

Welcome to the Forum.
The 3.5L V6 has an internal water pump. If it leaks there appear to be only 2 ways for the coolant to escape. One is the weep hole and the other is into the engine. I'm not sure where the weep hole is in relation to where the pooling is that you are experiencing but you should be aware of this thread. Water pump failure leads to dead engine
