Finding a lot of information and am about to just ask Crutchfield for help but thought I'd start here. I have the 6 speaker configuration. I've heard it's not worth it to update the speakers in the 3rd row. Can someone help me with exactly what size speakers I need for the front and rear doors?

I was able to find part numbers but not speaker sizes. I tried looking up the part numbers using Google but again no sizes were mentioned.
There are several threads here that I found using the 'Search' feature but I didn't go through all of them to look for sizes. Here is a site showing the part numbers, for what it's worth; Sound System for 2012 Ford Explorer | QuirkParts
I'm sure that someone will have the answers you seek.

Thank you! I find it odd that there is no real, clear definitive answer. I guess they do make adapters to use 6x9's but if I didn't have to buy adapters that would be ideal.

I had a couple issues with the correct speaker sizes when I was ready to change mine out. I heard it was 6x9s in front doors and 6x9s in rear doors. Wrong!!! 6x9s in front doors, 6.5s in rear doors. I confirmed by removing door panels. In my honest opinion, the best set of speakers to work with factory radios, with or without an amp, are Pioneers. Installed 4-ways in both front and back and they sound amazing.

Welcome to the Forum Brandon.
Do you have Sync?
Here is just one of several threads I found using a Search on Radio Upgrade; 2012 Base Radio There are members who also were not too impressed with the Sony unit although I had no issues with it. also, several members swapped out the 4" display unit with the 8" one.

Thanks Pete! I appreciate it. No I don’t have SYNC but there is the phone option on my radio. Always wondered why I couldn’t use it. Now I know! Lol! I do have an AUX input in the center console in the compartment in front of the gear shift though. Use it every to play music. I think I’m going to pull the radio out to see if there’s any way I can adjust the output for the rear speakers. They’re too low.
