Hello All,

I have a few noises I am trying to figure out:

When accelerating with the AC on there is a whining coming from the engine compartment. Anyone else have this?

When under slight acceleration I can here this gurgling noise coming from what sounds like the engine compartment. I also noticed when driving near something like a jersey wall you can hear the exhaust that sounds rough like a leak or something.

When when making sharp turns left/right there is a clicking coming from the tires. The only thing I could find that made a noise when poking around was the plastic center caps on the polished aluminum rims.

Your thoughts and experience is appreciated.

Thanks,
Mike

If the AC is on, the gurgling and whine sounds normal.
The low whine sounds like the Batmobile from the classic TV show.

The clicking - check your wheel boots-if they get tore up and sand or dirt gets in there it will do that.
On my old Honda when the boots tear apart they would not clean the joints and put on new boots, they would replace the joints/axles in the front and put on new boots.
Multiple shops would do this, saying it takes longer to clean out the joints and may not solve the problem, just replace them.
But axles were approx $250, I dont know what they would be for an Ex. or if its the same process.

Maybe normal for how the explorer is made but not normal in any car I've ever owned. The gurgling is without AC and the whining with AC is like a compressor motor is going bad or something. It's not normal vehicle sounds. I only have 8900 highway miles on my X so the clicking I don't think it's the boots/joints.

I don't have any noises with the A/C on except for the air being blown into the cabin.
Did you do a 'Search' on the "clicking" noise? If you did, you would have found a few threads about the issue. Here is one of them;

Funny

Peterk9, little snotty are we. First thing I did was do a search followed by creating this post since I didn't find my answer. I read that post and "heard a "pop" or "click" type noise when I released the wheel to return to center:" is not what I'm experiencing. Had you read my post you would know that "When when making sharp turns left/right there is a clicking coming from the tires" is what I am experiencing.

Calm down and try helping without being a smart A$$.

I was trying to help. That is all I seem to try and do on here. You'd be surprised how many people start threads on topics that already exist. I seem to be moving or merging threads every day because of that. The following thread addresses click noises when making sharp turns but other than thinking it might be a constant velocity joint, no actual cause was determined.
Good luck.

peter = have to agree with mw on the tone of your post...

You DO help,
but sometimes in our rush to state facts we forget we are talking to peers not computers :) (That is a quote from my wife NOT about you !!!)

if you feel curt in your thoughts you will probably type that 'curtness' :) so if it's a bother to RE-refer someone to a thread - don't put yourself out... after all - it's a discussion forum - let it be discussed - again and again if necessary - no skin off our teeth :)

we be good !

My apologies. As a moderator I try to keep relevant issues in the same thread so that when searching you don't have to look through various ones on the same topic.

Hello All,

I have a few noises I am trying to figure out...

Hi Mike,

I want to get your regional customer service manager involved so they can help. Shoot me a PM with your VIN, dealer, mileage, daytime phone number, and full name; I'll bring this to their attention.

I think I am experiencing the same "gurgling" sound as well. I have been trying to pinpoint it and so far realize that it only occurs under acceleration once I get to a cruising speed, but does not happen all the time (especially when I try to have someone listen to it...). What I have observed is that it is a constant "blub blub blub" sound that stays at the same pace no matter how hard I accelerate the car. Everything feels fine, just appeared one day.

I am having an oil change done Saturday and had made a note that I hear a noise so I will see what happens.

Touch base with me after your appointment, royski. If you need my assistance, I'll be happy to do what I can to help.

Mr woods, You want a straight answer, maybe a little curt, why not take your whining, and other noise to your Dealer. No body here is really going to be able to diagnosis and or solve this for you. Best regards Plum
