2013 Explorer 4WD
Hi! I'm new here.
Been lurking in this forum for weeks now since we've decided to buy an explorer. Now, the thing is the XLT and Limited only differs by $50/mo in the amortization so i'm kinda leaning on getting a Limited model.

I will update this thread with as our plan progresses.

Last thing, what color is the best for you? :)

Welcome to the forums greatauror28! :)

My wife and I love all of the gadgets (even when they misbehave), so we went with the Limited and have not regretted it for a moment.

We went with the Sterling Gray, though it would have been Dark Blue Pearl if that color were still offered on the 2013's. Check out our THREAD if you haven't already and meet the Gray Ghost.

I went with the XLT...202A, Moonroof, Blis, Powerlift Gate, Platinum White with Medium Stone interior. I should be taking delivery this week! Some of the features that I wanted weren't standard on the Limited, otherwise, I probably would have just ordered it. Really, I don't think there's a bad color to choose from. I went with the Platinum because my current ride is a pearl white and I love it. So easy to keep clean and looks brilliant in the sun. My second choice was the Sterling or Ginger Ale (just for something different-and I like the sage green undertones.)

Welcome to the forum, greatauror28! As you can tell, the community members here are great. :D You made a great decision for a new ride (I might be a little biased ;)). I highly recommend checking out the paint colors in the sun. Are you ordering or picking one out?

I’m looking forward to your updates in the thread; you’ll definitely see a lot more replies/recommendations soon.

VinceL & JUtecht,

Thanks a bunch, guys; I love reading your advice. :D

Me and my wife too love gadgets that's why i'm leaning more on the Ltd.
I might choose the ruby red color as i'm addicted to red.

Second color choice is white platinum but wifey doesn't like the idea of blending in with the snow when winter comes. Ginger ale color isn't too common that's why its nice in my eyes.

Nice idea to see the colors under the sun Cory :)
What is the main difference if I order instead of picking one out? Will it take long before delivery? Can you give me a ballpark of time frame when ordering out or just picking one? Thanks!

You got it, greatauror28! With picking one out, you choose from the dealer selection and drive it right then. When ordering, you pick the exact options/colors you want and wait for production/shipping. Many on the board have ordered theirs and will give opinions on the decision.

There are a lot of factors that go into the ordering process. Please allow, best case, eight to ten weeks. I recommend talking to your dealer about what time frame they expect for an order.

Another advantage to ordering a fresh Explorer is you have me to keep tabs on the latest status! :)

Now I understand! :)

Maybe that's why the first time we went to ford and asked for a quotation of an XLT model, she just printed it with options I never remember asking to include (which definitely jacked-up the price).

It turns out that particular Explorer is what they have in stock.

8 to 10 weeks to order? hmm, that sounds like a loooong time for me.
I hope they keep stocks of basic XLT or Limited because that's what I want as of the moment.

Do you think if i'd change the 18" wheels of the XLT to the 20" polished ones I have to special order the Explorer? Thanks!

It all comes down to deciding exactly what you want, and what you are willing to give up (in either equipment/options, or cash from your wallet paying for equipment/options that you may not want/need). After realizing that it was going to be difficult to get exactly what we wanted, and spending as much money as this thing was going to cost, we WERE going to get exactly what we wanted, it took us about 5 minutes to decide to go custom order. We got exactly what we wanted, and paid for nothing that we didn't want. The Gray Ghost is our car from bumper to bumper, not just a car that came closest to what we want. It is too large an investment not to be 100% happy with every aspect of the car.

Also, we didn't need the car right away. The car it was replacing was doing fine, but it was just a bit smaller than we needed after the little-man came along, so we were in no special hurry. Of course, if you need a car right away, you need a car right away. If not, I say order, get exactly what you want, and enjoy the heck out of the vehicle :)

greatauror28,

*touches nose* VinceL hit the nail right on the head. Keep in mind you can go to this page for the “Build & Price” and “Search Dealer Inventory” tools:

www.Ford.com/suvs/Explorer

You could even send me a PM with what you’re looking for and I can help with locating a vehicle for you. :D

VinceL,

Thanks again for taking the time to help!

I usually go to ford.ca for the build and price thingy coz im here in Alberta, Canada :)

I'm just looking for a ruby red 2013 Limited 4WD with no options coz i'm contented with the its included features. I'd be happy to know which dealer near me has one, so i can have mine the soonest!

The red is a beautiful color. The way the sun reflects inside the layers of paint gives it a depth, richness, and warmth that is hard to beat. It is a stunning color, you can't go wrong with that one.

My next vehicle will be custom ordered, too, like Storm was. So much happier to have the vehicle the way WE wanted and not he way the dealer ordered it.

I love the Ruby Red too. I think I'm going to order a Ruby Red Sport next week. I have never ordered a car before but when I spend this much, I want to make sure I get what I want on it.

Kaelin, congrats on your decision to order exactly what you want. Your build sounds very nice! I will say, the dual panel moon roof is amazing and so much fun, day or night. A splurge I am grateful we made. I have to admit, we did feel like we needed one of those old leather bite sticks at times, though....the waiting was HARDDDDDD! But it was completely worth it. We wound up with a crummy dealer, though and since our order took from May 3 (order date) to Aug 4 (delivery) we were stuck with them for a good while. I can honestly say, we had not one single update, solicited or not, from our dealer. ALL of our updates came from Cory and Ford CS. Hip hip hooray for Cory! When placing that order, find a dealer you like and trust and be sure you can be comfortable with them for the long haul. The vehicle is great but it would have been even better to have had a palatable purchasing experience.
Best of luck with your ruby red beauty!

Yikes. That is a long time to wait. I expect to wait awhile too since the Sport hasn't even gone to production yet. I started my car search around the 1st of May and have driven a lot of SUVs since then.
I am on my second Ford dealership. The first one didn't seem too interested in helping me. The first time I went there, 5 salesmen were just sitting out by the front door. I had to finally go ask if one of them could help me. I just felt like I was inconveniencing them. Kind of turned me off on Ford but one of my employees bought a 2013 Boss 302 from another dealer and I decided to give them a chance. They have been much better and the salesman that has been helping me has been great. Very low pressure but still there when I have question and always willing to let me test drive for the third time. He is supposed to let me know Monday what Sports they have ordered when his order guy gets back. I think I'm just going to go in and order my own though. Will definitely be getting the moon roof. My 5 year old daughter has made it very clear she wants her own skylight.

That’s a wise choice, greatauror28. :D I found Peace River Ford and Junction Motors within 25km using this tool:

For additional help, I suggest calling the Ford of Canada Customer Relationship Centre @ 1-800-565-3673; they’re great!

Congratulations, kaelin! You won’t have a VIN right away, so drop me a line via PM with your order number & dealer details and I’ll keep tabs on the status.

Aw come on, Toddy; you’re going to make me blush! :p:
