I am a new member and have used this forum for many helpful tips on fixing small things on my explorer. I have a bigger problem that I hope somebody could help me out on. My air conditioning is blowing hot air and I took it to my mechanic and they are saying the a/c lines to the front and rear have leaks in them. So they will need to replace all of the lines. They said that the rear auxiliary lines are corroded. I am wondering if anybody else has seen this issue? I can't find much about it online. The mechanic is quoting $1650 for the repair, because they have to remove the rear end to get to the lines. I called a Ford dealership and they said they have never heard of all of these failing and have never had to do this repair. They quoted over $2000 but said they would want to verify it to make sure all that stuff really needed to be repaired. Any insight with this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Lance

Welcome to the Forum Lance.
There are several posts here about leaks in the rear lines. In some cases, the member has been able to fix the leaks themselves. A few have just eliminated the rear HVAC unit by capping the lines. Front line leaks are not as common. The costs quoted seem to be in line with others that I have seen since there is quite a bit of work involved to replace the rear lines. Actually $1650 to replace all of them may be very reasonable since I believe that was around the amount to just do the rear ones.
