I have a gremlin in the abs...have taken it to the dealer numerous times with no solution. ABS will engage intermittently while driving and is not setting any codes. Dealer replaced both front Wss and flashed module and didn’t fix the issue. Took vehicle back to dealer and they came up with a bad clock spring and “guaranteed 100% the clock spring would fix the issue”, wrong again. I’m reaching out to see if anyone else has had something similar and possible solutions because I have lost my faith in the dealer to come up with an answer, thanks!

I don't recall a similar issue being posted here.

Hi Clifford I have the same on my 2018 XLT. I believe this is Gen 5 same as yours. Activates ABS and detunes the engine only when I turn the steering wheel either way while the throttle is applied. I was going to throw a clockspring at it, but I would like to prove the failure first. Mine is much better if I turn off Traction control. Hoping someone here can steer us in the right direction - no pun!
When I set up Forscan to observe the abs activations, it drops the connection as soon as the problem occurs, so can't really get good data. Starting to think comm bus?
Any ideas would be welcomed!

FYI, Clifford was last seen here on November 25, 2019.
Are you applying what would be considered normal or hard throttle?
5th gen Explorers are 2011 - 2019.

The slightest throttle will engage tge abs, but if i coast around a corner it will act normally

Check out the 2nd link I posted. Not sure if that is the problem or not.

Regarding the wheel speed sensors? They are all reading equally, some are new. Mine only activates when the steering wheel is turned greater than 90 degrees. Kicks me out of live data as well

Check the ring. I haven't looked, it might be part of the wheel bearing itself, but if there is a tooth missing, or the magnet is broken, the sensor will read incorrectly and think the wheel is not spinning and kick the abs in.

Thanks BadHabit, but if I am seeing good wheel speeds on the scanner, would that prove the sensors and rings are intact?

Under a lateral load, turning the wheel, the abs ring could be cracked causing the abs to kick in. That is why you do not see any issues moving straight.

Put the truck on a lift, turn off traction control, and check the sensors then, without the weight of the truck putting a load on the bearings as you turn the wheel.

I saw something mentioned about a clock spring..... What about steering angle sensor or the programming for it? If my memory is serving me correctly, you can download an as built for it.

Thank you, I'll try the wheel speed without load when I get to a lift.
For the angle sensor programming, would that be in the abs module?
I watched the angle live for a couple of miles, couldn't make sense of it.
I read something about it self calibrating the offset when the vehicle drives straight for a distance. I could use the as built
