2014 Sport being sent from rail yard back to Chicago?

We now have my salesman, a sales supervisor, and the General Manager all fist pumping mad about this, having found out the situation.

My salesman has explicit instructions to find out precisely what the issue is. He will personally retrieve the car as soon as its released. Possibly tomorrow.

I will report back with all detail as soon as I get the car in hand.

UPDATE 9/20: The GM did make contact with the area "D" regional inspector who will hopefully be able to trek over and do the inspection. Now waiting to hear back on when that will get scheduled.

Ordered mine on July 11th and had the same dreaded build week. Just got a call from the dealership that it has finally arrived today (original ETA was Aug 22nd). Picking it up later tonight and will inquire as to what exactly the hold up was and reason for the inspection(s). Hopefully they can shed a little light on it. If so, I will follow up for the readers of this thread. I will also be visually going over the vehicle with a fine tooth comb prior to driving off the lot, esp based on some of the photos i've seen in other threads about the 2014 build quality. Im skeptically excited to finally get this Explorer.

Update 9/21: Was told today that Ford has reps working 7 days a week doing post-build inspections. Perhaps some insight there on the number of cars involved in this delay. They will not release details about what the issue is, but did say that the car will not have to go back to Chicago. So I presume if the inspection does reveal a problem, it will be fixed at the dealer.

We're supposed to have the car inside of 10 days.

10 - how did your delivery go?

I found out mine has been put on a hold, along with "all" explorers, so Ford says. Mine was stopped in transit from the plant to the distribution center. I wonder what the hold is for...

Finally was told on Tuesday this last week that my EX was finally out of the plant after a build date of 8/10 and awaiting final inspection. I did not receive a call from my ford customer care rep on Friday as I was told but I called customer service and they told me it is now in transit with an eta of 9/22. Will update when I hear additional information. hopefully Ford will let us know what the issues were or are.

10 - how did your delivery go?

Delivery was fine. No explanation from my dealership as to what caused the delay or what exactly ford was checking on for that particular build week. Everything looked fine with the vehicle, nothing noticeable giving it the once over visually. One thing i did do, is get the extended warranty. And as a note to readers, the price of that was negotiable, which i was unaware of in the past. Ford factory warranty was 3 yr/36,000 mile i believe. I bumped it up to a 5 yr/75,000 for only an additional $950. Originally the dealership tried to have me bite on the 5 yr/60,000 mile warranty for $1,500. I him hawed around, declining a few times. The dealership agreed to drop the price from $1,500 to $750. The milage of the warranty can be adjusted as well. I bumped it from 60,000 to75,000 based on an estimated 15,000 miles per yr over a 5 year term. That bump in mileage only cost me $250, thus making the whole warranty $950. In the back of my mind, the uncertainty of what caused the delay in delivery, and getting no real answer, is what really pushed me to the extended warranty. At the time i placed the order i received a $1,000 incentive, which is now $2,000, so in my mind I got the extended warranty and still made out +$50. Im not a big warranty guy, as i feel there are too many loop holes, but in this case i had a gut feeling that it made sense. Not a big number dropper either, but wanted to put them out there so you guys know and can hopefully do even better or use then as a negotiating tool. Hope this helps some people, and good luck to everyone!!

Was notified today by the dealer that my EX has finally arrived! He told me that the reason it was held was due to a software glitch. Looks like I will be picking it up by Thursday this week.

It's hard to understand why some orders are taking so long. I order ex sport 2014 with second row bucket seats on August 3rd and I picked it up sep 15th , about 6 weeks!!! I had been reading this blog when I placed my order and I told my wife that maybe we were going to wait longer than what they told us (8 weeks ) but no we got it. We live in so cal , I don't know if that makes a difference.
