2014 sport with 112k on it. Dual climate control…All of a sudden my wife’s car windows will fog up from the back to the front. Car sits in garage and usually makes it about 10 miles before it starts to happen. Search has led me to blend doors and heater core. All blend doors replaced as I had the drivers side one go out twice…no leaks that I can see around core..no smell and no moisture on the floor..also no change in coolant level…any suggestions?

Moisture on the inside of the glass usually indicates moisture in the cabin. Have you checked the spare tire well for water/moisture?
Do you use both front and rear HVAC units?

Thanks for the reply…I have checked this when I had the back half all torn apart to replace the blend doors in the back and all dry…checked the front carpet to see if it is the heater core as well and just ain’t finding anything…we do and the fogging starts in the back and works its way forward..which is why I started with the blend doors in the back thinking they were the issue…

Remove the A/C compressor relay under the hood and see if the problem persists.

I gave this a shot this morning and still getting fogging on back windows really bad…question I have is when the rear heat is on shouldn’t heat come from the vents in the headliner?…I got nothing coming out of them…

On that model you should be able to drop the glove box door and see if the fresh air door is working correctly that's what I usually see causing a fog up issue.

The rear controls will determine if headliner discharge is enabled. If rear fan control is set to OFF both heat and cool will discharge from side when controlled from front.

The reason why I suggested the A/C route is the ten minute time frame and fogging starting at rear. If low on charge the rear evap would likely freeze up first and possibly cause that problem.

It does not take much of a heater core leak problem to cause issues. With cold engine pressure test cooling system to 15lbs. I would then use 6" long nose vise grips to clamp off heater hoses near engine. Wait ten minutes and if pressure drops upon removal of the clamps you got leakage.

Does the heat feel as hot as it always did, is the temperature gauge where it normally sits?

It's been a while since I've had the Explorer but I believe there is a vent in the side body panel near the floor for the rear heat behind the 2nd row.

Rear HVAC vent location depends on temperature setting.

If you have the rear set to full hot, the air should be coming from bottom vents. There are 2 vents under front seats and 2 on the lower rear sides for 3rd row. I think that’s all on the floor.

Full cold, air comes from the top 4 vents.

If you have it between hot and cold, it blends depending on how hot or cold.

I will say my rear windows seem to fog up in the winter more often than the front when I have people (or dog) in the back. I usually set the upper vents to face the windows to minimize it the fogging, but it still happens. I don’t have that issue in the summer unless it’s a cool day, but then with AC on, it helps clear it out.

I wonder if it has to do with the vents behind the rear wheels. Maybe they aren’t opening when they should be, basically recirculating. Thinking about it, I don’t remember that happening much for the first many years I owned it, even with our old dog. Wonder if it’s from HVAC reprogramming from the exhaust ‘issue’ from years back. I never had the exhaust issue, but I had the TSB performed. That might have been mistake.

My 2013 had a leak in the back from the factory, body sealant or something was missing. IIRC, it was somewhere in the back by the roof rack mounts or roof to body near the last pillar. Don't remember if it was left or right side.

this was the issue...i looked at it and it was functioning but the little white piece that goes inside of the door was stripped out! Replaced and no issues since. thanks for the reply and fix!

What part (PN) did you buy, and how did you install it? Did the dash have to come out?

Glad that did it, and at least it's one that you can get to with out pulling the dash!!
