2014 steering issue

Have an issue with steering. It sometimes gets stiffer and than loosen up. I haven't seen a pattern in it yet like lower RPMs, accelerating or hard turns. Anybody else heard or experience this issue before? Thanks in advance for any input.

2011 - 2018 Explorer Power Steering Issue

Has anyone had a power steering assist fault code show up? It has happened to me about a dozen times and you have no power steering when it does. Most of the time it can be killed and re-started and it will reset, but today it will not reset and I'm 2 hours from home having to man-handle it...

Are you familiar with variable speed steering? Looser at lower speeds and tighter at faster speeds? These EPS do get a bit twitchy at time. Seems like it looses up for a second. That might be what you mention. Our Sienna does that and they don't have EPS issues.

No I am not familiar with that. I will have to look that up. I notice this a few weeks ago and it seam to be getting more prevalent. Have there been issue with the variable speed EPS? Where would be a good place to start to learn up on this? Thanks a bunch

Ok, the verdict is in. It was the intermediate shaft. I broke down and took it to a guy who knows a guy (lol). The lower U joint, on the shaft had seized. Just want to say thanks for every ones input. The cost was $320 for the intermediate shaft, and $123 for the R&R shaft. $566.00 out the door.
