2016 back doors wont unlock from inside

don't know, will have to test. but there have been different passengers in the back and gotten out with running or after shutoff and no reported issues on the lock/unlock.
I believe post 19 addresses the issue. A misprint in the Manual about how they work.

On the 2016, Read Page 62 of the owners manual, second printing.

read the section on AutoLock and AutoUnlock - this is not the smart autounlock that trips if you try to lock your key in the car.

this is a different feature.

My car is setup just like this and it does disable the rear door, double pull to open.

Like mentioned here, the "double pull" to unlock and open the door is a misprint. The Explorer apparently doesn't have that feature. So your setup is the same as what I have set in my MKT. The only way to unlock the rear doors if the autolock is set up, is to either open the driver's door or press the unlock button on the driver's door. In other words, nothing has changed from previous model years.

I read through all the post here and I am trying understand how can the rear doors be unlocked from the inside by pulling the handle works. I have the child safety switch off, both autounlock and autolock are enabled. With the car running and all doors locked.... I pull the handle and the rear doors do not unlock. Same situation with the car off. The only way for the rear door to be opened is by pressing the unlock button on the driver side. I tried what some say here.... To open the driver side door and then the rear handle can push the lock up, but it doesn't. I tried disabling the autolock and autounlock and still the same situation. Maybe I am missing something, but the rear doors should open if the rear door handle is pulled, unless the child safety is enabled. I have a 2016 Ford Explorer limited edition. Can anyone clarify in what scenario will the rear door handle push the lock button up to unlock the door without the unlock switch being pressed. Thanks everyone in advance for any replies.

Are the rear door handles in any way connected to the locking mechanism to be able to push the lock up? It seems as if they are not and the handle just opens the door if the actuator was activated by the drivers unlock button.

Have you checked the child-proof lock setting on the rear doors to ensure they are not set to lock?

Yes, I made sure it was off... But I can take picture and post it here.

Did this just start happening?

I bought the car used in May of this year. I will try to take a video of what I am doing hopefully today, but if not tomorrow. I can open the rear door after I unlock them with the switch, but I cannot figure out how can the handle unlock the rear doors.

I took pictures of both rear door child safety position. From what can see the child safety lock is off. I uploaded a YouTube video of what I am doing. At the beginning of the video I made error thinking the doors were unlocked. I think the feature of autounlock only works if the car is being driven, then placed on park and turned off. Because I tried putting it in drive, then in park and when I turned off the car it did not autounlock.

It would appear the for the function yo work, the vehicle must have been driven first.

Here is what the manual says about Autounlock.

Yes, I drove the car today and paid attention and the door did unlock after I arrived, parked, turn off car and then opened the door. But I took some family today to the airport and I left the car running and got off to open the rear door and had to go back and press the unlock button in order for the rear passengers to get out. Rear passengers could not open the doors from the inside after the car was in park at the airport. I find out annoying and it should at least allow the rear door to open when the car is placed on park at least. I guess the only way for rear passengers to get out is if I turn off the car and open my door or pressing the unlock button if I am dropping someone off.
