New owner to a 2016 Explorer XLT. Was told low beam driver side light was out (signature light too). Thought I would just have to go get a new blub to replace...lol not so I found out. After reading in this forum I found the 2 fuses under hood and they seem to work. Passenger side works fine. I'm thinking it must be the LED ballast, module (seen it called different thinks) the flat silver driver on the bottom of headlight assembly. My question is do you really have to remove the headlight assembly which includes removing the front bumper? I can touch all four screws that hold the driver on. Can those be taken out and the driver dropped down and replaced with out taking the whole assembly out? Thanks for any help.

Are you able to switch the ballasts to see if the problem follows? I believe others have changed them without dismantling the front end.

Well I haven't attempted to remove since all I have read says you have to take the front bumper off. I haven't found anything on just changing those out without pulling bumper off and didn't know if I would run into problems that I don't see. Thanks for the Welcome to forum.

I have checked the wiring all all wiring seems fine. I'm still thinking it's the ballast. Anyone know the best place to purchase? Seems like several places out there to purchase but some don't have very good reviews.
Also until I can get it fixed I was reading where I could put like duck tape over the top part of the high beam lamp to be able to drive at night and not blind anyone and still have 2 headlights. Anyone done that? Thanks

Still haven't gotten around to fixing this. I put duck tape over the top half of the high beam and it seems to be working. No one flashing back at me to dim my lights. I've order several different wrenches trying to get those back screws off that blast thing. Does anyone know if those 3 little amber light on the side are part of the LED as well? Because they are working and if those are part of the LED blast then that would let me that the blast is working ok I would guess. Anyone ever got the blast off without taking the whole light assembly out?

Hello,

I am new to this forum. I can confirm there is no way to remove the ballast (control module) from under the Headlamp assembly unless you remove the entire Headlamp assembly out and this requires removing 4 screws which also requires removing the bumper from at least on side or both if you need to access both. I am working on this type of job this weekend since I am experiencing the same issue. I changed entire headlamp assembly, new ballast and am still getting issues. I think at this point there is a wiring issue/corrosion/bent pins. You will need an automatic ratchet with impact joint sockets as some bolts to remove the bumper are hard to get to.
