2017 Explorer Limited
Hello,

I recently purchased a 2017 Ford Explorer Limited and I'm liking it so far, except for one thing. I'm having an odd issue with the driver's side power mirror. Right after starting the vehicle the driver's side mirror automatically adjusts to a preset position that is not one of the three memory positions (somewhat down towards the ground). If I hit the memory button the mirror will go to the correct position and work fine until the next time I start the vehicle, when 50% of the time it goes back to the same incorrect position. The seats, steering wheel, and passenger mirror work as they should.

Thus far I have been unable to determine why it only happens intermittently. I'm the only driver of the vehicle, so I programmed all three memory positions to be the same as an experiment and it's still happening. Does anyone have any idea what would cause this behavior?

Thanks,

Welcome to the Forum.
I'm not sure why that is happening unless it is a sign of a module starting to fail. Have you tried erasing all 3 memory buttons and then just programing the one? Just a 'shot in the dark'.;)
Doing a 'Search' of this forum, I found this post; 2015 Ford Explorer Sports Side Mirrors

I'm guessing one of the backing plates is cracked behind the glass and probably hitting something causing the mirror to fold where it shouldn't. Just a guess. They are pretty fragile. The glass just pulls away if u want to look behind it

It seems like it was tied to the programmable key. I took the advice to try a reset (rather than just reprogramming) and held down all of the memory buttons until the second beep, then hit unlock within 3 second which is supposed to erase the memory for the key, and it hasn't had the problem for about two days (though that's only about 8 starts of the vehicle). I'm optimistic that it did the trick. No idea why it was just the driver's side mirror. Thank you!
