2017 headlight swap

If you're willing to do the research, here's how I'd approach it.

Try to find the VINs for:
-PI
-Base

Then, query ABD, against the Motorcraft website

-Your VIN (just for a clean copy)
-PI
-Base

PI/Base just being similar in lighting, and therefore giving you another comparison point to focus on

If you can figure out what values (blocks) that FORScan tries to modify--even if it fails on its own--you can probably ascertain the proper blocks to look more closely at.

Note also in FORScan there's a "Headlamp Type' programmable value as well in the pre-configured ABD settings for the BCM--did you try playing w/that?

The headlamp type didn't change any functions, as I believe it has to do with the DRLs. I did not have time to go through line by line with the ABD but I did have all three up, trying to see. My only issue was there are a lot of lines of code there and I didn't want to change anything that might cause problems with other systems. I know you can always revert, but I was skeptical about trying configurations that weren't known to be safe to play with. The controller for the lamps is different between the base/PI and the other models. I'll see if it matters at all. I'm assuming the second channel is to control the signature lights vs the 1-channel for the others. Can't do much with this until later next week as i'm having the lamps just replaced with bases in the meantime. Will Keep in touch.

The controller... are you referring to the LED Driver Ballasts?

Just as a note--I've seen it more than once where the Motorcraft ABD download has FEWER lines than are actually programmed into the BCM. I don't know why this is. But be very careful to save into a flat file before playing too much--it sounds like you are, but the warning was worth repeating.

Yes, the ballasts are different between the two configurations, presumably due to the second set of LEDs in the lamp.

Correct, all 16/17MY Explorer's have LED low beams. Some models have signature lighting but that is more than just swapping out the housing. There are as-built configurations in the BCM that need to change too.
Any insights into what BCM changes need made. I have gone away from the signature lights and cannot find an address or configuration that allows a transition from the signature lights to the base ones, and back like naperry was looking for? I have used the fusion and F150 spreadsheets for help and some changes are the same, but none helps my situation. As a novice, I don't have the skill to simply decipher everything that's necessary. Will pay for results!

I don't think you will like my answer...I believe it is firmware related.
