I’ve searched around a bit, if there is a thread that addresses/resolves this that I missed please point me there and my apologies.
Over the last month, I’ve been hearing an increasingly loud creaking sound coming from the right front of my Explorer. It is most noticeable upon acceleration from a stop up to 5-10 MPH, but also on braking at slower speeds - honestly, it seems to be connected to anything that shifts the momentum of the vehicle body.
I can hear it clearly from inside the vehicle with all windows up.
It doesn’t seem to be connected to outside temperature.
Over the last week, it has twice made a “wobble” sound going over 50 mph, almost like the sound
you hear when a window is cracked open at a high speed.
Background: I’ve owned this vehicle for 8 months, purchased at 11k miles. Currently at 18k miles. I was hit by a driver going ~10mph in Nov21, direct hit to my LEFT front wheel. Some suspension work, control arm bar replacement, alignment, bumper removal/installation. This noise began approximately 6 weeks after this.
I have driven to the mountain (snow, ice, gravel) and used the 4wd for the first time since accident and repairs.
I have an appointment at the shop that originally repaired it after the accident in two weeks to look at this to see if it could be related to the repairs or accident, but would love to hear ideas, feedback, experiences, if anyone else has experienced this loud and annoying noise on their Explorer, and if there was any resolution?
Also, I took it into my Ford service dealership and they basically said *shrug* you got a loud creak and we dunno what it is…
Thank you!
