2020 Explorer

OK, so my dealer emails me today and says that you can now order a bench seat on any Explorer trim! Kicking myself again for not waiting!

I wonder how many folks would take the bench over the captain's chairs? I am in between, it seems more normal to have a bench, and of course potentially more room and comfort for people in the 2nd row.

I don't know about the 2020 but the middle seat of the 2nd row bench was not really a comfortable place for an adult to sit. The seating surface was just 11 inches wide.
Car seats question

Having had captain seats on one minivan before '15 Explorer bench seat, I prefer the captain seats. My teens prefer the captain seats. Yes, we lose the 7 seat capacity, but we only ever needed that number a handful of times in all the years (16) had minivans or SUVs.

Would have liked:
Ability to modify the home screen/ reposition the sections (have 2 widgets instead of 3 - like just have nav and audio thus having more screen space for each)

Improved background selection/ ability to add backgrounds/ select the Ford Performance splash screen for “calm” mode.

Have screen navigation/ control from steering wheel. Similar to what we can do with the lumbar seat knob.

Better Sirius/Xm interface.

Wireless CarPlay connectivity.

Puddle light color to match ambient light selection

Tutorial/ information screens to display proper model/ paint of vehicle (like fordpass)

Future updates to include:
Entertain the ability to play games/ media while parked (similar to Tesla)

Does the captain seat fold flat? I kinda like have a flat surface. Does anyone got a picture?

Until someone is able to post a picture of theirs with the seats folded, I found this one. I can't tell if the 2nd row captain's seats would be totally flat but in any case you would still have a fairly large gap between them, unlike the folded bench seat.

it should be flat from what I've seen/read and with this generation the center console is lower than the 11-19's and as such would not stick above the Capt Chairs

Kind of sort of related to the back seats question - do not mean to hijack the thread.

If someone would be kind enough to verify this: can a 4x8 actually fit in the back with both sets of seats down? Please don't dirty up your new toys for this, but a simple measure would suffice.

Thank you,

JP

From the picture I posted it doesn't look like that floor is even between the cargo area and the folded 3rd row. The console is very, very low and I would think it would be lower than the folded captain's chairs from the pictures I've seen on the Ford site.

Unless they have substantially changed the cargo area, the answer would be NO. This is the 5th gen.;cargo area measurements, seats folded down

Ah - thank you Peter.

I just recall reading in the earlier pre-release reviews that this was supposedly possible but have not read/heard anything about this since then.

Would have been nice...

I distinctly recall watching a video review where a ford rep said you can fit a 4x8 flat with the seats down. Though, not sure I would ever want to.

We need someone with a 2020 to post actual measurements.:)

Peter

Why do I have a feeling that a measuring tape is not going to be high on your list of things to take on your flight tomorrow? :D

Enjoy your ride...

Exactly 48-1/4” wide inside the vehicle. Some rounding at the bottom of the liftgate opening but still adequate. About 82” to back of front seats depending on adjustment. Considering depth of the rear bumper, about 6” of an 8-foot sheet would extend beyond the bumper.

Ok. Thanks. So my next car will be another explorer most likely. I was gonna go with the Ranger but I feel I get a lot more car (tech, space, updated stuff) in the explorer.
